Two DAVV heads of depts squabble over playgrounds in Indore

VC signals change of guard at directorate of physical education & sports

INDORE: Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya (DAVV) vicechancellor Dr Narendra Dhakad on Tuesday signalled at withdrawing Ajay Kumar as director of Directorate of Physical Education and Sports after Kumar and School of Physical Education head Prof Deepak Mehta entered into a feud over use of playing grounds on UTD campus.

“I don’t want university staff to indulge in unnecessary fights. I have come across an issue between Kumar and Mehta. I talked to the duo and soon took a decision in the matter,” Dr Dhakad said. He signalled that, if need be, Kumar would be removed from directorship.

Sources said that the VC is contemplating replacing Kumar with Dr Sunil Dudhale. Kumar and Mehta came face to face after Kumar wrote a letter to the VC alleging that Mehta was trying to take control of playgrounds of the UTD campus.

In a letter to the VC, Mehta rubbished the allegations and lodged a counter complaint against Kumar. The VC held talks with the duo to resolve their dispute but to no avail, sources said. As truce could not be reached between the duo, according to the sources, the VC decided to remove Kumar from director’s post.

“Prof SK Yadav staked claim on the directorship but the VC rejected his claim,” sources said adding that the VC is not happy with Yadav as he had lodged a complaint with Raj Bhawan against School of Yoga head SS Sharma. He also denied giving directorship to any teacher of School of Physical Education, the sources went on to add.
