Trombay police arrest 4 for assault on Shiv Sena MLA

Mumbai: Four men have been arrested by the Trombay police on Tuesday for an assault on Tukaram Ramkrishna Kate (50), a Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) of Shiv Sena. The accused had attempted an attack on Kate since he had stalled the Metro line 3 project at Mankhurd. Kate and his party workers had punctured tyres of four trucks at Vashi naka, carrying sand required for construction. They had also stopped five other trucks from entering the Metro car shed at Mankhurd on Friday night.

The project was jointly undertaken by Radha Construction company (RCC), a Delhi based company, Pooja Enterprises and Prasad Enterprises. When Mahesh Londhe (32), the owner of Prasad enterprises came to know about it, they gathered goons to attack Kate.The accused Sachin Ashok Khandagale (31), Mangesh Ramchandra Sawant (26), Vishal Mahadev Khandare (24) and Suraj alias Satku Karke (25) have been arrested by the police on Tuesday. They have been arrested for rioting (Section 147), rioting, armed with deadly weapon (Section 148), unlawful assembly (Section 149),attempt to murder (Section 307), voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means (Section 324), intentional insult to provoke breach of peace (Section 504) and criminal intimidation (Section 506) of the Indian Penal Code.

Shahaji Umap, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 6) said, “Six teams were formed to trace the accused. Four accused have been arrested so far. Our teams are on the lookout for the remaining accused. The contractors Mahesh Londhe, Rahul Pawar, Sandeep Putla, Om Prakash, Kuldeep Aade, Nilesh Rane and Navnath Matkar are presently wanted in the case.”

On Tuesday, Kate has submitted a letter to Subodh Jaiswal, the Commissioner of Mumbai Police for conducting a thorough inquiry for an attack carried out on him. The incident occurred on Friday night. Kate escaped unhurt but his security guard and a party worker were injured. The accused were allegedly goons from RCC enterprises who supervise the work at Metro line 3 at Mankhurd.
As per the letter, Kate alleged the accused had attacked him at the behest of contractors from RCC enterprises, the firm has been given the contract of Metro line 3 project.

The incident occurred at Swardharm Pratishthan mandal, at Trimurti building, Mankhurd where Kate was attending Navratri celebrations. Five to six persons barged into the premises from Trimurti building gate number 6, on Friday night at 12:05am, along with choppers, a pistol and swords.

One of the accused wielded a sword and tried to attack Kate on his head and threatened him that he would kill him. when Sunil alias Kiran Ganpat Sawant (31), a party worker intervened. Sawant sustained injuries on his right finger. Yashwant Dorugade (40), the security guard of Kate, snatched the sword from the accused in order to save Kate and Sawant. Dorugade sustained injuries on his right hand.
