Thane: TMC gives residents six more months to obtain OCs

Thane: The residents of the city has a reason to rejoice. The buildings that do not have an ‘Occupation Certificate’ and therefore termed as illegal will get a chance to erase the term illegal from their identity. Under the new revised scheme, Thane Municipal Corporation (TMC) has eased down the clauses for getting the OCs. The corporation has given six months to the buildings to apply for OC under this scheme.

More than 80 percent buildings in the city do not have an OC. Most of them are illegal. There are more than a thousand such legal buildings across the city who do not have OC owing to some rules flouted by the builder or the architect. Such residents are forced to pay 1.5 % extra property tax as they were tagged illegal. Thus the amnesty scheme was brought in for these buildings since March 2015. As per the scheme even individual flat owners can get an OC by paying a fine amount which was not the case earlier, as OC was given to an entire building and not individuals.
