Mira Bhayandar: Taking a cue from their Thane counterparts, the Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has finally rolled up its sleeves to take action against bars and lodges for illegal constructions, especially those with secret cavities to hide girls during police raids.

The civic administration has slapped notices to around 70 such establishments to fall in line or face punitive action.

Not ruling out the possibility of bar girls suffocating to death after being confined in such cramped spaces, Thane (rural) police officials have been repeatedly requesting the civic administration to identify, inspect and take corrective action against the violators.

Moreover, the issue has been discussed at length in several general body meetings, however apart from formal notices, no concrete action has been taken so far, raising a serious question mark on the real intentions of the civic administration.

“We are already into action mode, not a single illegal construction will be spared. Notices have been served and demolition process will begin soon,” claimed deputy municipal commissioner- Deepak Poojari.

Neither it’s a business hub, nor a tourist destination but still the twin city has earned the notorious tag of having scores of bars and lodges, most with blatant structural changes carried out to convert the premises into multiple miniature rooms to carry out their nefarious activities, sources said.
