Teen fakes own kidnapping to help girlfriend

Mumbai : Aspirations and living it up often can take toll on youth. Such is the case of a 16-year-old minor boy who has been arrested along with his 19-year-old friend for planning and executing his own kidnapping. The Saki Naka police said the intention of staging his kidnapping was to extort money from his own father to date his girlfriend and take her out at night.

A missing complaint was registered at Saki Naka police station by the uncle of the minor boy. According to a crime branch official, “The two boys were arrested on Saturday. The boy planned his own kidnapping since he wanted pocket money to go on dates with his girlfriend and also wanted to financially help his girlfriend’s family.

On Thursday, the father of the boy received a phone call from an unknown number threatening him that his son had been kidnapped and demanded Rs 50 lakh and was asked to deliver the ransom at Manor near Palghar.

Based on this information, a team was dispatched to a lodge near Laxmi residency at Manor near Palghar. The police had kept the unknown mobile number of the accused on surveillance which was traced to a lodge at Palghar. As per the call details record, it was ascertained that the boy was in touch with his 19- year-old friend and had planned the entire kidnapping.

Police Inspector Shrimant Shinde said, “The two boys were arrested from a lodge near Manor. The minor boy and his friend have confessed to the crime.”

The minor boy’s girlfriend is a resident of Palghar and have been arrested by crime branch unit 10.
