Kolkata : Suspended Trinamool Congress Rajya Sabha member Kunal Ghosh who was arrested in connection with the multi-crore Saradha Group chit fund scam, was granted an interim bail till November 11, 2016 by a division bench of the Calcutta High Court on Wednesday.
Justice Ashim Roy and justice Moley Marut Banerjee granted the journalist turned politician on a personal bail of Rs 2 lakh on the ground that he has served more than half of the term of the punishment under the sections he was booked on a particular case. The court also directed that Kunal Ghosh would not be able to go out of Narkeldanga police station area where the high profile journalist resides and he would have to deposit his passport to the CBI. The court also directed him to visit the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) office once in every week. The central probing agency has been investigating the Sardha Group scam.
Kunal Ghosh who was once a closed aid of the chief minister of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee was arrested on November 23, 2013. He was the CEO of Saradha Group’s media arm, ”Broadcast Worldwide” company.
Political observers said that the relation of Kunal Ghosh with the chief minister had tainted after Ghosh demanded that all the influential Trinamool Congress leaders who were reportedly involved in the scam, be interrogated jointly with him by the CBI.
