Mumbai : Mohammed Khatims goal made the difference as St Mary’s SSC (Mazgaon) defeat Dominic Savio (Andheri) 1-0 in the final of U-16 Division I match of the Mumbai Schools Sports Association Inter-School Football Tournament played at Azad Maidan on Wednesday.
St Mary’s SSC started the match with their aggressive style of play and created the first chance of the match within a few minutes of the game.
Dominic Savio looked out of sorts in the opening minutes but the boys regrouped later and started attempting shots on target.
In the later stages of the first half St Mary’s SSC put lot of pressure on Dominic Savio players and pressed them hard which made them vulnerable in the defence and Mohammed Khatim of St Mary’s SSC took the advantage of a loose ball given away by the defence and curled the ball into back of the net beyond the goalkeeper putting his team ahead in the game.
In the final minutes of the first half, Dominic Savio tried their best to with an all-out attack but St Mary’s were solid and were able to hold on to the lead.
In the second half, Dominic Savio started the game with a lot of energy and putting players forward hoping for an equaliser.
But St Mary’s had other plans as they stood firm and created their own chances.
Dominic Savio kept the ball in their possession for the most part but were unable to hit the target.
While Dominic Savio was able to get past the defence in the dying moments they failed to convert them into goals which helped St Mary’s lift the cup.
In a third-place match, Ahsaan, Ansoor & Arhaan starred in Jamnabhai Narsee’s 3-0 win over St Francis D Assisi, Borivali 3-0.
