MUMBAI : The CBI has registered a fresh FIR against the Gitanjali Group promoted by Nirav Modi’s uncle Mehul Chinubhai Choksi, following a second complaint from the state-run Punjab National Bank.

Three companies of Choksi — Gitanjali Gems, Gili India and Nakshatra Brand Ltd — have been named in the FIR. In this case, the alleged loss to PNB is estimated at Rs 4886.72 crore. Searches were conducted at 20 different premises related to Choksi and the Gitanjali Group, as well as the premises of their directors.

These raids took place in six cities — Mumbai, Pune, Surat, Jaipur, Hyderabad and Coimbatore.

The agency has seized diamonds and jewels worth Rs 549 crores.

Both Nirav and Choksi have also been summoned by the ED under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). They have been asked to depose within a week.
