Lucknow : Members of the SP, the BSP and the Congress on Thursday staged a walkout from the UP Assembly and created ruckus in the Legislative Council, accusing the state government of threatening the opposition and using unparliamentary language.

The opposition forced repeated adjournments in the House. As soon as the Assembly met for the day, Leader of the Opposition Ram Govind Chowdhury, who belongs to the SP, alleged that the government was “threatening the opposition and it wanted them (opposition members) in jail”.

“We all are threatened… They are threatening to put our entire family in jail. Members are being humiliated and we are not getting protection from the Speaker. I have never seen such a situation in the House in past 40 years. We all are walking out, now you run it (the House) as you want,” Chowdhury said.

Members of the SP, the Congress and the BSP then left the House. The situation was no different in the Upper House of the state legislature.
