Bhayandar : Soon you will not have any difficulty in locating a public toilet in the twin city of Mira Bhayandar.

In response to the Central government directions, the Mira-Bhayandar Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has embarked on an exercise to enumerate and map the toilets and urinals located at bus stands, parks, petrol pumps, shopping malls as well as corporation-run public toilets and Sulabh toilet complexes.

The compilation will then be updated on the navigation system with Google Maps and mobile application that will pinpoint the location of loos near you at the click of a button.

“Our teams are visiting all the locations and clicking pictures of the toilets from three angles which will be geo-tagged through a specially designed software.

Apart from gathering details such as the ward number, street name, exact latitude and longitude (geo-tagging), descriptions such as – male / female facility and also if it is disabled and child-friendly.” said a MBMC officer.

At present, there are around 3,500 toilet seats in 170 public loos in the twin city. Civic personnel have been trained by an expert team from the Quality Council of India (QCI) – an agency hired by the union ministry for the Swachh Bharat Mission, is working in tandem with the MBMC’s sanitation department in the process of introducing the service

to citizens.

Another team from the Ministry of Urban Development (MoUD) will visit the city and randomly inspect toilets to verify the authenticity of the data.

The government aims to release the application on October 2nd, the third anniversary of the Swachh Bharat Mission.
