Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the Sohrabuddin Encounter Case, during the deposition of Vasant Laljibhai Solanki, the Investigating Officer (IO) claimed, he failed to appear before the court on Thursday, despite issuing summons and providing him with police protection. However, Solanki refuted their claims saying as false. The special CBI court, had in the month of September, directed the central agency to provide the retired Gujarat Police Inspector Solanki with police protection.
Speaking to The Free Press Journal, Solanki denied receiving any police protection. He said, “I have not received police protection as yet. In fact, just recently I received a call from one Mr. Desai, an Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) form the headquarters, asking me to depose before the court.”
Solanki a resident of Gujarat further said, “Desai further told me, I will be provided with police protection only from Ahmedabad to Mumbai. This sort of security has no meaning and is useless.” Further, Solanki also refuted the claims of the central agency of serving the summons to him, “They are misleading the court, I have sent a text message to the CBI, mentioning, no summons have been served to me till date. Hence it is not possible for me to depose before the court.”
The preliminary inquiry in the aforesaid case was carried out by Solanki, and he had concluded it to be ‘fake.’ He said, “I am not scared of these people. When I depose before the court, I will tell all. If advocate Jethmalani tries to intimidate me, I will tell the court, he is welcomed to question me on anything, but he should not try to scare me.”
