Slice of life: December is here, and so is time for ‘change’

December, the last month of the year has finally arrived. For some the year must have gone way too fast than expected. For the rest, it would be long, never-ending journey called 2018. Whatever the feelings maybe, few things are going to change or needs to be changed once we touch 31st of this month.

By now many of us must have already purchased year 2019 calendar. And those who haven’t must have made a note of it on their weekly purchase reminder list. Those who have cordial relations with the seniors working in big corporate houses or banks must have already told their yearly friend to keep a new year’s diary or a calendar they either bring out or get.

Once you are done with the annual request, you start anticipating what type of diary or calendar you will get this year. Will the diary contain inspirational quotes or not. Will it have bigger space to write upon or more of daily planner kind? Trust me, on a real bad day the inspirational quote does not come handy as one seldom gets enough time to pay attention to read what the words of wisdom are for the day.

With calendar, there is always anticipation with regard to what type will it be? A wall calendar or desktop one? If we are clear about that, we can now focus our thoughts upon what pictures will it have this year for our visual delight. And for some, the thought is not about pictures but about the size and visibility of the dates. Bigger the better keeping in mind the visibility factor of the young and old in the house.

Last December, I discovered something which I never knew till then as one of the yearly preference of change for many, irrespective of their gender. With loads of pamphlets dropped every single day in the newspapers in December and 70 per cent of them pertaining to uni-sex beauty salon. I was curious to know why only December and so many at one go. Little efforts and I found out that people now consider going for a change in hair colour with the yearly shade and fashion. Wow! That was something completely out of the box for me. Imagine one new colour every New Year. Even the hair will be thinking which one next?

Amidst all this, we should also realise that what changes without our consent or choice is our age. It all depends how we look at it. We can say that with the change in the year we are going to get one year older. Or we can say getting one year wiser with the coming year. Right now it’s December, the last month of the year. Let’s enjoy this month to the fullest without thinking much about the anticipated or inevitable changes that we might have to make or face. The change will come and happen, but not before the Santa has come and gone. Till then, just breathe as we always did.
