Shantanu Maheshwari on Khatron Ke Khiladi: As an actor, one has to keep evolving

While the city enjoys the rains after days of scorching heat, our stars are in midst of a gruelling competition that has just begun in Spain. The shoot for the upcoming season of ‘Khatron Ke Khiladi’ is on, and there’s no respite for the contestants. Shantanu Maheshwari, who has garnered huge popularity with his character Swayam in Channel V’s Dil Dosti Dance, has taken part in Khatron Ke Khiladi 8. The actor cum dancer, who was recently a part of Sony’s Jhalak Dikkhla Jaa, shares his phobias, his excitement to perform the various difficult tasks and his views on the girl power in the show.

Why did you decide to do a reality show so soon after Jhalak?

Jhalak was my playground as I have been dancing for years. Khatron Ke Khiladi (KKK) is altogether a different show. I’m pretty much excited. This is going to be different than a dance show. As an actor, one has to keep evolving. KKK is one such show where I look forward to find what I can do.

Did you do any preparations before the show?

Not really. I have never actually altered my diet for any of my shows or hit the gym & picked up heavy weights because my dancing does the work for me. Apart from acting commitments, I have a dance troupe & we religiously dance for however less time while managing other things. Dancing has kept me in shape, healthy & also strong physically & mentally.

You have a fear of water and heights since majority task are based on the same, how do you plan to attempt the task?

I am at the moment taking swimming, up as a challenge, since the past few weeks. I have always wanted to learn it, but never really took it up as I had a major water phobia. I’m no master right now. It’s not really that easy to pick up swimming but I’m going to keep trying. Maybe this show came around at the right time where I get to work on my inhibitions & fears.

How has the experience been so far?

I’m loving the place, it’s beautiful. People are helpful & I’m making lot of international friends. I’m enjoying Spain.

Who is your favourite contestant till now? And your competition?

All of them are very nice people so I’m enjoying everyone’s company but it is fun to interact with Geeta Phogat, Monica Dogra & Shibani. My competition is with myself, overcoming my phobias.

You worked on a short film for the web recently, how was the experience?

That was the first time I ever did a short film, the content was fresh & interesting & that drives me to take the project. I’m happy with the appreciation the film has got & wish to be a part of such fresh content in the near future as well.

Why so many TV stars moving on to the web, even though you have a huge fan following on TV already?

It’s not that they are moving to web, actors thrive on challenging & interesting roles so if the story is nice & something interesting, actors prefer to be a part of such shows. Also, web has a different market so actors try to explore that area as well.

Any future plans, after you return to Mumbai from the show?

I will start training again for my dance with my crew Desi Hoppers. But it is too early to talk about other things.
