MUMBAI: Akash Jadhav (22) who was arrested in the rape case of a journalist at Shakti Mills in 2013 was arrested on Saturday for assault by the N.M. Joshi Marg police station.
A First Information Report was registered by the complainant Ajay Matkar on Thursday. Matkar was assaulted by the accused at Boricha Marg at Lower Parel. The accused asked Rs.50,000 from the the complainant and his brothers Amit Matkar and Harish Matkar. This followed an altercation between Matkar and Jadhav. In a fit of rage, Jadhav banged Matkar’s head into a car parked on the road near Minerva towers in Lower Parel. The Matkars own a business of loading and unloading goods at the docks. Jadhav has been booked for punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt (Section 325), assault or criminal force (Section 352) and common intention of the Indian Penal Code.
Jadhav was also wanted by the Agripada police in a kidnapping case. In another case, Jadhav attacked and kidnapped a man outside his office at Agripada for extortion.
On August 2, 2013, Jadhav had stopped the photo journalist and her colleague and had forcibly taken them to Shakti Mill compound. Later, he called up three of his accomplices who arrived at the spot and sexually assaulted the woman. Jadhav is a drug addict.
