Ujjain : The Mahakaleshwar Temple Priests Committee has demanded strict security for officials of the temple participating in the Mahakal procession to be taken out towards Freeganj on Dusshera.
In a letter to the district magistrate, secretary Mahesh Pujari said that palanquin priests, pall bearers and security guards had narrowly escaped a mishap during the procession last year as crowds went berserk in a bid to have a glimpse their favourite deity.
While there was an urgent need to protect the replica of the paraded deity, it was very essential to construct barricades, not only to ensure safety of the palanquin but also the people. The letter stated that the committee would be held responsible for any untoward incident and hence immediate action should be taken.
