Rohingyas: Now, Operation Insaniyat

New Delhi: The Modi government is hell-bent on sending back the Muslim Rohingya refugees to Myanmar despite the threat of them being lynched. In fact, the Centre, on Thursday, filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court, stating that ‘‘Rohingyas are a threat to national security.’’

But even as it did so, the government also decided to send consignments of humanitarian assistance to Dhaka, by ferrying food and other essential items, to enable the neighbouring country to grapple with the huge influx of Rohingyas who have fled from Myanmar.

The relief material will be delivered in multiple consignments under “Operation Insaniyat”, with the first tranche to be flown to Chittagong by an Indian Air Force plane on Thursday evening. Dhaka has sought New Delhi’s help in addressing the problems.

This aircraft was loaded overnight with relief material consisting of critical daily necessities — rice, pulses, sugar, salt, cooking oil, ready to eat meals, mosquito nets etc.
