Since decades, the tableaus have been a centre of attraction at the Republic Day parades. The floats are made by artisans and engineers and are accompanied by live performances. The tableaus have depicted varied themes showcasing the rich cultural heritage of the country as well as the nation’s progress in areas like women, IT, empowerment and enviromental protection. In 2018, tableaus presentation includes from 14 states – Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Gujarat, Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Kerala along with the Union Territory of Lakshadweep.
Maharashtra’s tableau at Republic Day parade will showcase the historic coronation (rajyabhishek) of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The tableau has been created by art director Nitin Desai and his team of artisans. The act will be performed by 10 artists. Designed by Prof Narendra Vichare the float is a 3D replica. The parade resumes at Rajpath and ends at Red Fort in Delhi.
