Ramgopal’s heart now beats in Delhi man’s body

His liver couldn’t be utilised due to infection but kidneys transplanted to two patients in city’s hospital .

Indore : To save several lives, two Green Corridors were created in the city to transport vital organs of Ramgopal Teli, on Tuesday.

His heart and liver were successfully transported to New Delhi through a ‘Green Corridor’ prepared for the record 10th time in the city, while kidneys were transplanted in two patients in the city hospital. Officials of Indore Organ Donation Society claimed that it’s a record that organs of 10 patients were airlifted in a year. However, Ramgopal’s liver couldn’t be transplanted as doctors found some infection in it during biopsy at AIIMS.

“The first corridor was created for 19-km route from CHL Hospital to the city airport on Tuesday to transport heart and liver to the AIIMS, New Delhi, through a Jet Airways flight at 12.20 pm. Another corridor was created for a stretch of  7.2 km from CHL to Greater Kailash Hospital to transport kidney to a patient,” Secretary of Indore Organ Donation Society, Dr Sanjay Dixit said.

Preparations for the Green Corridor started from Monday night and it was successful when the first ambulance left the hospital at 11.40 am and later the doctors left the hospital, escorted by a police van, at 11.41 am.?

The ambulance carrying heart and liver reached the airport in 12 minutes while the ambulance carrying kidney reached Greater Kailash Hospital in just 10 minutes. Skin and eyes were preserved in Skin Bank at Choithram Hospital and MK International Eye Bank.

Dr Milind Hote and Dr Sujoy Pal of AIIMS led the team of heart and liver specialists, respectively. Whereas Dr CS Chamania, Dr Pradeep Salgia, Dr Ratan Sahajpal, Dr Anil Bandi, Dr Vinit Gautam, Dr Sushil Bhatia, Dr Yusuf Sethi and Dr Nitin Sharma played important role in the transplant process.

Liver couldn’t be utilised

The kidneys were transplanted into a 55-year-old city woman in Greater Kailash Hospital while another was given to 29-year-old female from Khargone also at Greater Kailash Hospital.?Heart was successfully transplanted into a 45-year male from New Delhi while liver couldn’t be utilised due to some infection in it.

Father took the brave decision

Decision of donating the organs was taken by Ramgopal’s father, Sukhlal with a wish to keep his son alive even after death. His decision was supported by other family members and wife of the deceased also.

Ramgopal was survived by a four-year-old daughter, Jagruti and a four-month-old son, Prem. He was working in a nursery in Badwah and had come to the city just a couple of months ago from Unnao, Uttar Pradesh.

Ramgopal was severely injured after being hit by an SUV near Mortakka Bridge in Badwah and was rushed to Choithram Hospital.

w April 28, 2016: Heart and liver of 18-year-old Deepak Dhaketa of Gauri Nagar were transplanted to two patients in Gurgaon and New Delhi. His two kidneys were transplanted to patients admitted in two Indore hospitals. He was declared brain dead by doctors at Sri Aurobindo Institute of Medical Sciences after an accident.

w March 11, 2016: Heart and liver of 34-year-old Gaurav Jain were transplanted to patients in AIIMS and ILBS, New Delhi. His mother Prabha Devi had taken the decision of donation

w March 7, 2016: Heart and liver of 20-year-old labourer Pappu Dawar, resident of Dhar district were transported to New Delhi, while kidneys were transplanted to two patients in the city.

w March 6, 2016: Heart of 21-year-old Durgesh was transported to Mumbai, while his liver was airlifted to Delhi.

w Feb 9, 2016: Two green corridors were created to transport liver and kidneys of a brain dead patient Vishwas, resident of Mehidpur. His liver was sent to a hospital in New Delhi while kidneys were used for patients in local hospitals. His heart could not be utilized as he was a heart patient.?

w Jan 22, 2016: Liver of 12-year-old Darshan was sent to New Delhi, while his kidneys were transplanted to patients in city hospital. Darshan died in a road mishap.?

w Jan 3, 2016: Heart of 20-year-old Sonia of Malviya Nagar was airlifted to Mumbai. Liver was sent to New Delhi for a 48-year-old man. Skin and eyes were harvested by MK International and Choithram Hospital for transplantations.

w November 8, 2015: Liver of 59-year-old Ramesh Asarani was transported to Medanta Hospital, Gurgaon. He was declared brain dead due to brain hemorrhage.

w October 7, 2015: Liver of Rameshwar Khede, resident of Khargone, was sent to Medanta. His skin and cornea were harvested by Choithram Hospital.
