The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials have seized 850 first copies of high-end watches, illegally imported cigarettes worth Rs 21 lakh. The DRI busted a major watch racket after raiding two shops in Manish Market area on Tuesday.
According to DNA, after getting information about illegally smuggled watches, the DRI officials conducted a raid in Musafir Khana, Manish Market on Tuesday afternoon, during which officials raided two shops owned by Aadil Ashfaq Padri and seized 850 watches. The owner had no relevant import documents for the watches. And the watches looked like first copies of Rolex, Omega, Seiko, Armani, and Rado.
The DRI seized these watches under Section 111 (Confiscation of improperly imported goods, etc), Section 123 (Burden of proof in certain cases) and Section 125 (option to pay fine in lieu of confiscation) of Indian Customs Act. The DRI also conducted a second raid at Crawford Market in which officials arrested Shabanali Razahussain Virani from whom they seized illegally imported cigarettes worth Rs 21 lakh. A DRI official told the leading daily that, “Cigarettes are illegally imported from Dubai to Delhi. There are four gangs operating in Delhi who through couriers, send the consignments to Mumbai, Gujarat, Goa, and Pune via rail route.”
