New Delhi : Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday appointed his close aide Krishna Allavaru as a joint secretary of the party and made him in-charge of the Indian Youth Congress.

Allavaru, hailing from Hyderabad, has been so far operating from Rahul’s residence during the latter’s tenure as the party vice-president, without any position in the party.

He is the second person to be made the AICC joint secretary. The only other join secretary is Ruchi Gupta who is incharge of the party’s student wing National Students Union of India (NSUI).

So far, AICC Secretary Suraj Hegde (47) hailing from Karnataka was in-charge of the Youth Congress. An AICC press release he will be also stepping down as the AICC secretary.

Allavaru came to prominence in 2016 when he went to Chandigarh to watch on behalf of Rahul a no-confidence motion brought by the Congress against then Akali Dal government.
