Indore: Joint team of Static Surveillance Team and city police raided an office in a commercial complex on RNT Marg and recovered Rs 35 lakh. Another office was also raided and Rs 8 lakh was seized. Income-tax officials were tipped off for a bigger amount. The cash is suspected to be linked to Hawala operations.
Additional Superintendent of Police Vahnee Singh said the SST was constituted by the district election authorities to check the flow of illegal money ahead of the assembly elections. Deputy Superintendent of Police Pallavi Shukla had received information about cash stashed in an office in Silver Mall located on RNT Marg after which she informed SST and concerned police officials.
An office in which 14 persons were present, was raided by the SST and police and seized Rs 35 lakh from there. They could not show any transaction receipt or document for the money after which the money was handed over to I-T department to know the source of the same. Investigation is being launched as it is suspected that the money is linked to Hawala operations.
Rs.8 lakh recovered from another office
SST team and police recovered Rs 8 lakh from another office in the same building. ASP Vahnee Singh informed that the cash was recovered by the police and investigation is on to check the source of the money. The money will be handed over to returning officer to deposit it in the treasury. The money will be returned back to the persons if they present any transaction receipt or documents for the same.
