Bollywood trade analyst KOMALNAHTA lists the interesting releases hitting screens this year
Year 2018 may have witnessed an unthinkable and unimaginableoutcome – the films of all the three Khan superstars fell like nine pins at thebox-office – but the fact remains that it has been a fantastic year forcontent-driven films. Whether it was a Badhaai Ho, Stree, Raazi, Hichki, SonuKe Titu Ki Sweety or Andhadhun, films with content bigger than the stars inthem worked their magic despite medium budgets and they competed withbig-budget and star-cast extravaganzas like Padmaavat, Sanju, Raid andGold for audience attention.
It is still to be seen if 2019 will be able to replicate thesuccess story of 2018, but it is certain that the new year may turn out to beanother exciting one because it has an interesting line-up of films. AlthoughAamir and Shah Rukh Khan may not have a single film release this year, Salmanwill come up with Bharat on Eid which is considered his lucky week. Diwaliwill very likely see housefull boards adorn cinemas because the fourth in theHousefull series – Housefull 4 – will hit the screens in the festiveweek. The new year will have its fair share of sequels too.Besides Housefull 4, there will be Total Dhamaal, Student Of The Year 2 (whichwill star Tiger Shroff and introduce Chunky Panday’s daughter, Ananya Panday, and Tara Sutaria), and the third in the ABCD series, this time titled StreetDancer. Hrithik Roshan, who had no release in 2018, will probably make up forhis year-long absence as he will be seen in not one but two films this year. While Super 30, a story about mathematician Anand Kumar, will see Hrithik doinga lot of number crunching, the other film of the handsome hunk will see a lotof action because the as-yet untitled film also stars Tiger Shroff. RanveerSingh, who closed the account of 2018 with Simmba, will have one release, GullyBoy, in 2019, in which he is paired with Alia Bhatt.
