Hardik Pandya scored a brilliant century to help Team India amass a gigantic total of 487 on Day 2 at and all-rounder did it in some style. Resuming the day at 329-6, wicketkeeper batsman Wriddhiman Saha, who was batting with Pandya, failed to respond to the pressure situation and was dismissed by Vishwa Fernando. Meanwhile, Pandya, put forth yet another breathtaking innings with fours and seven sixes to amass his first maiden ton. But what seemed even more enthralling was his 26-run-an-over hurricane in the first session of the Day which enjoyed with much praise at the Indian dug-out.
With nine wickets down, Pandya started thrashing the Lankan bowlers all around the park. Umpires also extended the morning session. Unperturbed by the conditions, Pandya continued his show and created havoc among the Sri Lankan bowlers. And in that process, Pandya completed his first ever Test century, which was followed by the traditional celebration of the batsman taking off the helmet and raising his bat in the air. Soon a tweak was made in the celebration as Shikhar Dhawan from the stands and prompted Pandya to copy his two-peace celebration style, which he duly accepted. Pandya, playing his third Test, was the star of the day with his 96-ball 108 that lifted India to a commanding first innings total after the visitors resumed on 329-6.
Meanwhile, this hurricane was wreaking havoc, the camera moved to the Indian dugout. Virat Kohli was seen laughing and doing a high-five with Ajinkya Rahane as Pandya’s teammates seemed to have thoroughly enjoyed the crackling Carnival.
On day 3, Team India is on the cusp of history as they eye victory in the third and final Test against Sri Lanka at the Pallekele stadium.
