Pakistan Elections 2018: BCC Newsnight confuses Imran Khan with fellow teammate Wasim Akram, apologies

Newsnight has apologized for showing footage of Pakistan bowler Wasim Akram instead of his former teammate-turned-politician Imran Khan. The flagship BBC2 news programme opened with a piece documenting Khan’s journey from a cricketing hero to a potential prime minister. They showed a clip of former Pakistan pacer and cricket team captain Wasim Akram instead of Imran, but by the time the news channel realised their mistake and deleted the tweet, screenshots of the same flooded on Twitter. The gaffe was slammed by many including Pakistani’s for ignorance.

See the Twitter reactions below:

To note, both the men are the icons of Pakistan cricket. Imran after retiring from cricket ventured in countries politics and soon we could see him becoming country’s new prime minister. Khan is famous for leading his cricket team to victory at the 1992 World Cup, Pakistan’s first and only victory in that competition. Meanwhile, Akram has remained in the sport since his retirement and spends much of his time commentating on the game.
