Indore : Shocked at NGO’s move to force a family to donate patient’s organs before he was declared brain dead, the local doctors have demanded investigation into the matter.
They have raised the matter on WhatsApp group to reiterate their demand for investigation.
Neurologist Dr Apoorva Puranik said he was surprised with the news of allegations of forced donation.
“I don’t know much about the case but the matter should be investigated and it should be ensured that the guidelines are followed in case of organ donation,” he said.
Dr Puranik said the matter is crucial and is related to a noble cause, which should not suffer.
National chairman of Indian Medical Association’s anti-quackery wing Dr Sanjay Londhe said that there is a difference between counselling and forcing the family members to donate organs.
“It should be investigated whether NGO activists were counselling patient’s family members or forcing them for organ donation,” Dr Londhe said.
Family members of a patient had alleged that activists of NGO Muskan Group forced them to donate organs before patient was declared brain dead in MY Hospital. The NGO had denied the charge.
Later, hospital administration took a decision not to allow counsellors to meet the family members before a patient is declared brain dead.
