The United Nations (UN) body was trolled after inviting Gurmeet Ram Rahim and Honeypreet to lend their support on World Toilet Day. A tweet from UN-Water asked Gurmeet Ram Rahim and Honeypreet to lend their voice and support on World Toilet Day. After the tweet, there was backlash and people started trolling the body and then UN-Water was forced to delete its tweet. In its tweet, now deleted, UN-Water wrote, “Dear @insan_honey, we hope you & @Gurmeetramrahim will lend your voice and support #WorldToiletDay.”
It’s not clear whether the UN body was unaware of the rapist baba’s new fate or its account was hacked. The tweets by UN-Water were posted a day after Honeypreet was arrested by Haryana Police. She was produced before a Panchkula court on Wednesday. Gurmeet was sentenced to 20 years in jail for raping two women, both his followers, at his sprawling Dera, spread over 600 acres of land.
UN-Water monitors the international organisation’s work in sanitation and water related issues. In 2013, the United Nations General Assembly officially designated November 19 as World Toilet Day which is coordinated by UN-Water in collaboration with governments and partners.
