Mumbai: Minister of State for Housing Development Ravindra Waikar has said that the allegations levelled on him by MRCC president Sanjay Nirupam regarding the gym on Aarey land are based on inadequate information and he has done no wrong. However, Nirupam has dared him to make public registration details of the institute to which the plot has been allotted.
“All the allegations levelled by Nirupam are completely political in nature. These allegations are baseless in nature and have been made without taking complete information,” Waikar said in a statement.
The decision to develop the gym had been made after the demand came in from citizens who regularly take a morning walk in the area. The construction started after due permissions from various government departments and the funds too were drawn from various schemes, the minister stated.
The area used for the gym is less than 4000 sq feet which makes the charges of encroachment over 20 acres of land ridiculous, the minister said and added that the facility is being managed by ‘ShivasamarthaShikshanPrasarakSanstha’, which has been registered with the government since 1994 and it has undergone audits as per requirements.
Nirupam, however, has reiterated his charges and pointed out that the minister has skilfully avoided his original questions pertaining to the extra construction in the form of first floor of the gym and registration of the institute that manages it.
“Waikar needs to clarify under which rules they constructed additional floor. He needs to furnish the information to the people,” Nirupam said and asked, “if everything is as per rules, why did MHADA write to Aarey to demolish it? Why the action was stopped?”
Nirupam also asked the minister to furnish information on registration of the institute managing the gym.
“The minister needs to clarify as to where the said institute was registered? Whether it has been registered with the Registrar of Companies, the MCGM or with the Matoshree,” asked Nirupam.
