Nirbhaya van to patrol Mira-Bhayandar for women’s safety

Bhayandar: With a view to provide a complete security cover to women, the Thane (rural) police rolled out its “Nirbhaya”— a special all female police control room (PCR) van for the twin-city of Mira Bhayandar on Tuesday.

With the words “Nirbhaya – Women Security Team” emblazoned on its sides, the van with four lady cops including a police sub inspector and female driver on board will patrol locations like railway stations, educational institutions and market places.

“Apart from getting alerts from the control room and local police stations, the van will have dedicated helpline numbers on which the complainant in distress can dial to establish direct contact with on-duty personnel. On receiving a call, the Nirbhaya van will rush to the assistance of the woman in trouble and take her case to a logical end in the shortest possible time. We wish to promote this van as the first point of safe contact for women who find themselves in danger.” said Additional SP Atul Kulkarni.”

“This van will be on the move continuously as intensive visibility of cops on road works as a deterrent factor to keep criminal elements under control,” said SPI Ram Bhalsingh.
