Navi Mumbai: 22-year-old ends life by jumping into Vashi creek

In an unfortunate incident, a 22-year-old girl took the extreme step of ending her life by jumping into the Vashi creek on Saturday night. The girl has been identified as Sheron Francis. The Vashi police, along with the fire brigade and local fishermen are trying to find the body of the deceased.

According to the cops, Francis was a resident of Badlapur and worked at a city-based call center. On Saturday evening, she contacted her friend, identified as A Mishra and asked him to come to Vashi railway station.

“The duo then headed to the Vashi creek’s old bridge. Francis narrated her ordeal to Mishra and said she is frustrated with life and wants to commit suicide. This made Mishra tense and he asked her to stop it and started calling other colleagues to inform them about her ordeal. While he was in the middle of that, the girl committed suicide by jumping into the creek,” said Tushar Mane, police sub-inspector, Vashi police station, reported Mid-Day.

Francis ended her life around 9 pm, after which the police, fire brigade and fishermen began a search operation. “We conducted the search operation till 10.30 pm on Saturday, but since it was too late, we started it again on Sunday morning. The operation was on till late Sunday evening. However, the girl has not been found. Local fishermen are still continuing the operation,” said an official from the Vashi police station. “Since the body floats towards Uran in such cases, we have informed the Uran police as well and are further investigating the matter. We even questioned Mishra about the girl’s background, but he is unaware of it. He said he came because the girl called him,” added Mane.
