Indore : In order to eliminate the dependency on private hospitals for organ retrieval, Indore Organ Donation Society has decided to start the organ retrieval centre in MY Hospital.

The process for making the first government organ retrieval centre has been started and the hospital will be declared a new centre for the purpose in the next couple of days.

However, the society has also been planning to allow permission to four more private hospitals for retrieving organs including Medanta Hospital, CHL Hospital, Greater Kailash Hospital and Bombay Hospital.

According to the secretary of Indore Organ Donation Society Dr Sanjay Dixit, “The process to start organ retrieval in MY Hospital has been started. It requires an advance OT, ICU and Brain Stem Cell Death Committee and all these facilities are available in MY Hospital as well.”

He said that the inspection of other four private hospitals has also been completed and permission to them would be given soon.

“Permission for the retrieval centre will be given by the dean of MGM Medical College and all the aspects will be scrutinised before the decision. We are also planning to develop transplant facilities in the government institution and it will become a reality soon,” Dr Dixit said.

After the permission of retrieval centre in MY Hospital, first ‘Green Corridor’ from any government institution in the state will be prepared in the near future and patients would not have to shift to any private hospital after they are declared brain dead.

Five Green Corridors were prepared in the city in last four months and the organ retrieval procedures were conducted at Choithram Hospital.
