Mumbai: Youth attempts suicide inside Borivali lock-up

Mumbai: Shahrukh Pathan (22) has been admitted to Shatabdi hospital after he attempted suicide inside the Borivali lock-up on Wednesday night.

Pathan, a resident of Malad (west), was booked by Malvani police under sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He was sent to Borivali police lock-up.

“He was arrested by the Malvani police and was produced before a court that sent him to police custody,” said a senior officer of Borivali police station.

“On Wednesday night Pathan took off his shirt and tied one of its ends to the window. He tried to hang himself with the help of his own shirt. But his inmates raised an alarm and was taken to nearby hospital,” said the officer.

The officer further said that Pathan at present is out of danger.

There were three inmates including Pathan in the lock-up when the incident took place. The police have recorded the statement of both the inmates and are investigating the matter.

Gold worth over Rs 17 lakh seized

Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) officials have seized eight cut pieces of gold bars and one gold bangle worth Rs. 17.40 lakh from a passenger at Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport (CSIA) Mumbai in the wee hours of Thursday.

“The 36-year-old passenger Kishor P. Torani came to Mumbai from Dubai by Air India flight number AI 984 at 4:00 am. He was holding Indian passport and was about to depart to Ahmedabad by Air India flight number AI 017 at 5:30 am on the same date in transit,” said a senior customs officer.

The officer further added that Torani, who is a resident of Ulhasnagar, concealed the cut pieces of gold bars in
his body.
