Mumbai: Work to give makeover to CSMT junction on lines of Times Square to start from January 15

Soon, the work to give a makeover to Chhatrapati ShivajiMaharaj Terminus (CSMT) junction on the lines of New York’s Times Square tostart from January 15.

According to Indian Express, this makeover includesdelineated traffic lanes, walking, resting zones, and multiple access, exitpoints. This makeover of the CSMT junction was proposed by the BrihanmumbaiMunicipal Corporation (BMC) and an American organisation. The junction will beredesigned by the National Association of City Transportation Officials-GlobalDesigning Cities Initiative (NACTO-GDCI) under BIGRS (Bloomberg PhilanthropiesInitiative for Global Road Safety).

Vinod Chithore, chief engineer, roads and traffic departmenttold the leading daily, “From January 15, we will conduct trials without anypermanent changes at first. If it is successful, then we will make permanentchanges. The area has high footfall and it is a critical junction to be redesigned.”

On the similar lines, 20 junctions across the city will beredesigned, the initiative includes Dr Annie Besant Road, B R Ambedkar Road,Jijabai Bhosle Marg, Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link Road, P D’Mello Road, SantacruzChembur Link Road, Senapati Bapat Marg, V N Purohi Marg.
