Mumbai: The presence of mind of three on-duty Railway Protection Force (RPF) staffers who were monitoring the crowd near Foot Over Bridge (FOB) at Kurla station helped to nab a robber who had snatched a gold chain from a commuter on Monday.

A commuter, identified as Jatin Vora (31), who is a Khar resident was robbed of his gold chain when he was about to board a local train at Kurla. “The accused took advantage of the crowd at the platform in order to commit the offence. The CCTV has also captured the accused who was monitoring the movement of the victim in order to rob him,” said the official.

The accused, identified as Atish Kumbhar (36), escaped after committing the offence. The commuters at platform No 7 raised an alarm which help the RPF officials spot the victim.

The officials spotted the victim chasing the accused on the same platform. “We nabbed the accused with help of other officials and have handed him over to the Government Railway Police (GRP), Wadala. Kumbhar is a resident of Wadala. We recovered three valuables from the accused, which includes a gold chain worth Rs 40,000, a mobile phone worth Rs 11,000 and a watch worth Rs 3000,” said the official.
