Mumbai: The anticipation of over 2.35 lakh students applying for FYJC (First Year Junior College) admissions was ruined into delays as the first merit list itself was not uploaded in one day. The list which was supposed to be declared in the evening was delayed by at least seven hours.
Students, frustrated by this entire online admission system, complained that all they could do at every step of this process was just wait. Ritesh Mehta, a student, said, “First, the entire online application process had numerous errors and delays. And now, the merit list was not out on time. We were eagerly waiting and we did not know whom to approach as the state government monitors the entire process.”
The lists of all other regions except Mumbai were out on time. The reason given for the delay was that there were a large number of students from Mumbai as compared to other regions of the state. The delay was also due to the new software agency NYSA Asia as it was the first time that this agency is monitoring this process.
Junior colleges were helpless and just as students they, too, had to wait for the merit list. Rajpal Hande, Principal of Mithibai College, said, “This is the first time the online system has faced so many errors and delays. We had to wait for the state government to send the merit list details as colleges do not have any role in this process and everything is decided by the government.”
As this year the percentages scored by the students of three boards SSC (Secondary School Certificate), CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) and ICSE (Indian Certificate of Secondary Education) boards was high the students feared that the cut off was bound to rise.
The students whose names have appeared in the first merit list have to go to the respective colleges, submit documents and pay the fees to secure their admissions from July 11 to 13 between 10 am and 5 pm. The cut-off of the first merit list will be published on the site and vacant seats will be updated on July 14. The students can also change their preferences of colleges from July 15 till 18. The second merit list will be out on July 20 at 5 pm.
