In good news for train commuters, Western Railway (WR) is likely to start operations of local train services between Goregaon and Panvel by December. This means commuters will be able to travel from Goregaon to Panvel without switching trains.
Currently, WR operates train services between Andheri and Panvel, and the Harbour railway extension from Andheri to Goregaon was completed this year. According to Hindustan Times, Union railway minister Piyush Goyal during the inauguration of the Harbour Railway line till Goregaon had announced a further extension of the corridor till Borivli station. This will allow passengers to take a train directly from CSMT on the Central Railway.
This extension is likely to completed by 2023, and the planning and execution body for this project, the Mumbai Rail Vikas Corporation (MRVC), will undertake the extension work of Western Railway-Harbour line till Borivli.
