Mumbai: Seashores excluded from safety checks

Mumbai: The officials of the fire department of the civic body has made special arrangements on city beaches to avoid mishaps especially during high tides. However, seashores of the city have been excluded from safety arrangements.

Prabhat Rahangadale, Chief Fire Officer of Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) remarked, “We cannot deploy lifeguards at sea shores as they have rocky terrain.

If lifeguards dive on these shores their life would fall in danger. While diving they may hit the rocks underneath.” Rahangadale further added that they cannot put their officers’ life in danger. Therefore, they have written a letter to police officials to increase patrolling on these sites. The popular seashores are Bandra Bandstand, Nariman point, Worli Sea Face, and other shores near Aksa beach.
