Mumbai: Robbers’ gang busted, six apprehended in Kalyan

Kalyan: With the arrest of six robbers, the Kalyan Crime Branch claims to have busted a gang of robbers, who reportedly had looted two wine shops’ agents in separate incidents 11 months ago. Police said they had been groping in the dark sans a clue.

The arrested accused have been identified as Haresh Goswami and Ganesh Sonawane. Police are not naming others to ensure the other members are not alerted. Sanju John, the senior inspector, Kalyan Crime branch, said, “The arrests were made after tracing their mobile location on Thursday. We used some technical evidence to pin the six robbers.” John said police first took details from the agents, who used to collect money from the wine shops.

The six accused were produced in a Kalyan court. They have been remanded in police custody till November 10. According to police, on January 17, one victim, Mahesh Righwani was headed towards Ulhasnagar from Waldhuni bridge after collecting cash. Suddenly, two motorcycle-borne miscreants came in front, beat him up and robbed him of his Rs 6.5 lakh in cash, a mobile phone and a gold chain.
