Bhayandar: Apart from providing a smooth passage for processions and ensuring trouble-free immersions, the safety of women is on the top of the agenda for the Thane (rural) cops during Anant Chaturdashi that marks the conclusion of the 11-day festival on Tuesday.
Apart from drawing an elaborate road map involving micro-level planning for safety and security, plainclothes policemen including women cops will mingle with the crowds to keep an eye on miscreants trying to cash in on the opportunity to eve tease or molest women.
“Supported by Special Reserve Police Force, Riot Control and Quick Response Team a strong force of 600 police personnel, including ten police inspectors, 43 sub and assistant police inspectors, 530 constables and 75 home guards will be deployed at the immersion points and strategic locations in the city,” said Sr PI AS Kurundkar.
While the MBMC has positioned cranes, boats, regular and hydraulic lifters for convenient immersions, 299 civic personnel including 50 life guards and firemen will be deployed for the safety of devotees. In addition to manpower, 50 CCTV (closed circuit television) cameras will be used for surveillance. “Our entire security machinery is in place to ensure peaceful and safe immersions,” said SP Dr Mahesh Patil. On the final day of the 11-day festival thousands of devotees will bid a final farewell to 2,948 Lord Ganesh at the 22 immersion points in the city.
