Bhayandar: The festive season has started and the Mira Road division of the Thane (rural) police is leaving no stone unturned in keeping a stringent vigilance on eve-teasers during the nine nights of Navratri Utsav at the various venues across the twin-city.
Special squads have been formed to tackle the situation in case any ‘Romeo’ indulges in eve-teasing and passes lewd comments on women at any of the raas-garba and dandiya venues. Not only policemen, even their women counterparts will be attired in civil and even traditional dress and mingle in the crowds acting as decoys to trap eve-teasers, mischief mongers and other pretty thieves who try to cash-in the opportunity to steal valuables.
“Those found behaving indecently, especially with women folk at the festive venues, will be dealt with strictly facing action under section 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the IPC.” confirmed SP Dr. Mahesh Patil. Apart from this, the police would also keep a strict check on the noise level and also ensure that the organisers wind up the festivities before the stipulated time deadline. Armed with decibel meters to gauge noise levels, trained police personnel will initiate action under the Noise Pollution (Control & Regulation) Rules, at any venue where the noise level exceeds the prescribed decibel levels.
