Mumbai: There is some good news for students who were unable to secure admissions in any degree college after the declaration of the third and final merit list.
They can now re-apply to colleges and hope to secure admissions in one of their favoured colleges. Students can apply online on the Mumbai University (MU) portal and can submit their applications to various colleges where there are vacant seats. The admissions will be given on first come first served basis without any merit list.
But they first have to check the availability of seats in various colleges that they desire to take admission. If there are vacant seats in the degree colleges, they can simply apply online to MU and submit their application form along with other documents to that particular college.
This move has come after the students along with their parents rushed to various colleges as their names did not appear in the third merit list. Leeladhar Bansod, public relations officer of the MU, said, “Students just need to fill the pre-enrolment form. They do not have to register again if they have already registered. They will have to find out the vacancy in various colleges and then apply in those colleges.”
There will be no merit list for this admission processbut it will be done on first come first served basis. “If students apply to a particular degree college which has vacancy, then those students will get admission in that particular college if the seats are not full. There will be no declaration of merit list. Once the seats are full, the colleges will close the admissions,” Bansod added.
The seats in most colleges are full as there are various reservations, minority quota, in-house admissions and management quota. One of the left-out students said, “We are also trying our luck offline in management quota as there are always some people in colleges who can help us get admissions through some means. The seats in the colleges where we wanted admissions are already full so we are trying every way possible.”
Sharmishtha Matkar, principal of Patkar Varde College, said, “We will accept admissions depending on our intake capacity till our seats are not filled. Students can submit documents, pay the fees and secure admissions if there is a seat.”
