Mumbaikars brace yourself for traffic snarls in South Mumbai as app-based taxi drivers from Ola and Uber will undertake a protest march from Bharat Mata in Currey Road to Vidhan Bhavan.

According to Hindustan Times, the protest march is slated to begin from 10 am and more 10,000 drivers from Mumbai, Thane, Kalyan, and Navi Mumbai will likely take part in the protest march. Govind Mohite, general secretary, Maharashtra Rajya Rashtriya Kamgar Sangh (MRRKS) told the leading daily,  “The rally will go up till Vidhan Bhavan where we will attempt to meet the chief minister. If we do not get any reply, a final call will be taken on Monday evening.”

This is the second attempt of the app-based cab drivers to pressure the government and their parent companies into giving in to their demands, one of which includes increasing the base price and per km rate in line with rising fuel prices in order to increase the profit margins of drivers.

“Our policies are designed to help driver partners function like entrepreneurs with absolute control over their income. Earnings of driver partners on the Ola platform are best in the industry…We appeal to them and consumers to not pay attention to rumours,” an Ola spokesperson told the leading daily.
