Mumbai: Khar police have arrested a 49-year-old man, wanted in over a few dozens of bag-snatching cases, most of which are registered in western region police stations of Mumbai. The accused, who has been identified as Mahesh Parmar, is a resident of Dahisar who used to target mostly female pedestrians during broad daylight. Parmar was wanted since last one and a half years.
With the surge in bag-snatching cases in Mumbai, the zonal Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Paramjit Singh Dahiya had formed several teams to trace the pending cases of bag snatching. “A motorcycle-borne man used to target women in western suburbs to snatch their hand bags. All the incidents including the regi tration number of his motorcycle were captured in CCTV cameras,” said an officer from Khar police station.
With the help of Regional Transport Office (RTO) police managed to track down Parmar’s motorcycle. “Parmar used to leave home in Dahisar on pretext of going to office for work and would target women travelling between Borivali and Bandra,” said officer. During interrogation Parmar has confessed that he has snatched bags in Andheri, Bandra, Khar, Charkop, DB Marg, Malad and Matunga.
