Mumbai: A mock fire drill was conducted on the International Day of Disaster Reduction on Friday by the Mumbai civic fire department officials at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters.  The officers are especially trained to rescue people during emergency situations and to render first-aid to those in distress.

“The idea of conducting a mock fire drill was to create vigilance among the BMC staff and also to create awareness and to tell them to keep an eye around on any such incident which can be avoided,” said the civic officials from the disaster management cell. The mock drill was conducted at 4 pm.

“After the fire alarm was raised the firefighters successfully managed to evacuate three thousand BMC employees along with 300 engineers present in the office within 11 minutes time. Also, in just 18 minutes the fire was doused,” claimed the disaster management officials of BMC.
