Mumbai: A 22-year-old man strangulated his 19-year-old wife to death at their residence at Bhandup on Wednesday morning since the accused suspected his wife of having an extramarital affair. According to police, the accused, Amar Bapu Mahire alias Rahul (22), would often pick fight with wife Nisha Mahire (19) over the suspected affair.

At 10 am on Wednesday, the couple had a fight over the same issue at their residence at Hanumant Nagar slum, Bhandup.
Amar abused Nisha in filthy language. Nisha pushed him aside to reach for the flat’s entrance door to regain her composure. Due to the push, a nylon rope of a clothesline tied on a low ceiling wall, fell off. With the rope, he strangled her to death. Realising his wife was dead, he panicked and fled, said police.

Ramesh Khade, senior inspector, Bhandup police station, said, “Amar surrendered before the Parksite police, Vikhroli, at 9.30 pm on Wednesday, since he thought his residence comes under the jurisdiction of Parksite police. He narrated the incident and confessed to having committed the crime. We took him into custody.”
