Mumbai: Maharashtra Navnirman Sena seeks action against hawkers

Mumbai: The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) president Raj Thackeray on Wednesday met civic commissioner Ajoy Mehta at the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) headquarters on Wednesday and demanded action against illegal hawkers obstructing the pathways and making it difficult for pedestrians to walk on the road. He further suggested to start a WhatsApp number for people to complain about the inconveniences suffered due to the hawking.

Thackeray told the Commissioner to put signboards warning the hawkers not to sit on public places so as to avoid any mishap to take place in future like the Elphinstone stampede which killed 23 people and left many other injured. Thackeray also warned the civic chief to take prompt action against hawkers and if they fail to do so, MNS will take action in their own style.
