Mumbai: Former delivery boy arrested for theft of Amazon parcels

Mumbai: Khar police arrested a 22-year-old man for stealing packages from delivery men of the online shopping portal, Amazon. The arrested accused, Kiran Eknath Pawar, has been booked under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and was remanded in police custody till December 15.

According to police sources, Pawar, a former employee of Amazon delivery services, tracked the movements of other delivery boys. When the targeted person would go inside the building to deliver the package, Pawar would steal the parcels kept inside the delivery bags. Police inspector Sachin Katkar said, “Since Pawar was a former employee, he knew the timings and methodology of delivery men arriving in a specific area. Accordingly, Pawar laid a trap for the delivery men and decamp with the parcels.”

Last week, a complaint was filed against Pawar with the Khar police station. The police then realised that similar cases against the accused were also registered with the Kherwadi, Bandra Kurla Complex and Vakola police stations. Police scanned the CCTV footage of the area and found Pawar at all four spots where the theft was reported.

The police immediately checked their records as well as the employee records of Amazon. Incidentally, an employee identified the accused as Pawar. Acting on this information, police arrested Pawar on Monday. Items worth Rs 65,000 was also seized from Pawar’s residence. Pawar was booked for theft (section 379) under the Indian Penal Code. He was produced in a local court on Tuesday and was remanded in police custody till December 15.
