Mumbai fire safety check: 27 restaurants found violating norms in SoBo

After the fire tragedy at Kamala Mills compound, the BMC and Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) are on a spree to catch the culprits who are flouting norms for their restaurants and eateries. The Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) last week inspected 34 eateries in BMC’s A-Ward in South Mumbai out of which 27 were found violating fire safety norms.

According to a report in DNA, twenty-one of the 27 restaurants were served notices under Maharashtra Fire Safety and Life Prevention Act and five were found operating without obtaining the Non-Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Chief Fire Officer.

“We have extended our support to the Municipal Commissioner towards the drive that all restaurants should comply with fire safety norms. Many have been served notices and they will fulfill the deficiencies found towards fire safety. If not, the fire officials are free to take further action,” Santosh Shetty, President, All India Hotels and Restaurants Association told the leading daily.

The eateries that were found flouting fire safety norms are Mahesh Lunch Home, Pratap Lunch Home, Cafe Bahar, Lalit Refreshment, and Chavan. While Pizza By The Bay, Gaylord, Flamboyante, Samrat Veg, Salt Water Cafe, Wok Express, Printo Pub, Cafe Oval Beer Bar, Mocking Bird Cafe, Status Restaurant, Shiv Sagar, Vasant Sagar among others were served notices by MFB for violating fire safety norms.
