Mumbai: Duo ram bike into police constable, assault him during nakabandi

On Thursday, Vikhroli police booked two men for assaulting a cop. The accused has assaulted a police constable after he tried to stop them from speeding away at a police checkpoint in Vikhroli.

According to Mumbai Mirror, the accused have been identified as Mohd Shaikh (24) and Mohd Sayyed (25). Both of the accused are residents of Govandi. The duo in order to evade scrutiny first rammed the bike into the police constable and then attacked him. The incident took place on Thursday around 10 am, at the Godrej Soap Gate in Vikhroli on the Eastern Express Highway. Several incidents of chain snatching have been reported from this area, so the cops had set-up a check post. The cops were looking for men on bikes attired in a typical fashion.

Meanwhile, during nakabandi, the cops saw Shaikh and Sayyed, were pillion’s face was hidden behind a scarf and both were wearing black clothes. A police officer told the leading daily, “Constable Chetan Rajput tried to physically block their path and they rammed their Pulsar into him hitting his right leg. Then the pillion rider got off the bike and pushed Rajput and assaulted him.” When the cops took the duo to the police station to book them, it was revealed that neither of them possessed a driving licence. The cops now have booked the duo under relevant sections of the IPC and the Motor Vehicle Act.
