Mumbai: The Thane crime branch sleuths have dispatched the CCTV video footages to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) to gather evidence of the meetings that allegedly took place between Mamta Kulkarni and others at a five star hotel in Juhu in the drug haul case.
The Mumbai police had earlier received a tip-off about the meetings at a Juhu five-star hotel in the ephedrine drug bust case.
The CCTV footage has been sent to the State Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) as well a private forensic firm.
According to an officer of the Thane crime branch, “The hotel CCTV saves data only for a month but the meet took place three months ago. We are now checking if we can get the footage of the hotel retrieved from the hard disk. The footage that we need is no longer available in the hard disk. However, there are advanced technologies that are able to retrieve deleted data. Hence, we have sent the hard disk of the hotel footage for forensic testing.”
Ephedrine, a controlled substance used to make medicine, was being diverted by a Solapur-based pharmaceutical firm, Avon Lifes ciences Ltd, to a drug cartel in Kenya owned by kingpin Vicky Goswami and Mamta Kulkarni, a former actress.
So far, the police has made 10 arrests and named seven persons as wanted accused in this case. Last week, the Anti-Narcotics Cell of Thane crime branch suspected the involvement of MamtaKulkarni’s sister in the Rs 2000 crore ephedrine drug haul case. Last week, the Thane crime branch had summoned Molina Mukund Kulkarni, the elder sister of MamtaKulkarni, and Sanjay Sharma, a bank manager, for questioning for their alleged involvement in the drug cartel. Sharma is allegedly involved in money laundering.
