Mumbai: A 21-year-old domestic help allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from the ceiling fan of his servant quarters in Andheri recently. The deceased, who was from Uttar Pradesh, was identified as Bablu Ramprasad Paswan. His elder brother had got him the job with the Agarwal family in Lokhandwala two months, said police.

“Paswan went to his servant quarters attached with the Agarwals’ flat at 10 pm on August 27 and did not come out of his room the next morning. The lady of the house knocked on his door several times but there was no response. She then, with the help of another domestic help, broke open the door and discovered Paswan hanging,” said Subhash Khanvilkar, senior inspector, Oshiwara police station.

She then informed the police control room about the incident. “He was found hanging from the ceiling fan with a nylon rope. No suicide note was recovered from the spot. No external injury was reported in the post-mortem. There was only strangulation mark around his neck,” said Khanvilkar.

After autopsy, Paswan’s elder brother claimed the body.  Paswan’s elder brother, who is also a domestic help in Juhu, told the police that the deceased was an “alcoholic and introvert”. His brother told the police that Paswan hardly spoke with anyone including him. The Oshiwara police have registered an Accidental Death Report (ADR) and further investigations are on.
